Petra is one of the amazing remnants of the ancient civilizations in Jordan. It was founded in 312 BC as the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom and was named the “Rose City” in relation to the unique colors of its rocks. Petra has been the capital of the Nabataean empire for centuries. The city was a central strategic location connecting the Arabian Peninsula with the north of the Levant via the commercial caravan journey, but it eventually came under the control of the Roman Empire in 106 AD.
Petra is one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites and one of the most famous tourist sites in the world. You can reach this wonderful city on foot or by usingthe horses through the depth of a narrow desert pass called the “Siq” which stretches along a kilometer between the finest diverse and colorful rock and in Its end the visitor will see the most famous Petra Monument, the “Treasury”, a magnificent art painting carved in rock that extends 43 meters high and 30 meters wide.

It’s not permitted for motorized vehicle to enter the ancient site. But if you don’t want to walk, you can hire a horse from the gate until the beginning of the Siq, or you can try the horse-carriage ride to take you through the Siq until reaching the Treasury or even until the restaurant area nearby the old museum. For elderly or handicapped people, the horse-carriage ride is a good choice for them as it can take them to visit the main attractions site inside the ruins of the ancient site. Once you are inside the site, you can hire a donkey, or a camel ride for more adventures experience.
